Limit switch

A travel switch (also known as a limit switch or microswitch) is an electronic switching device used to detect the position of an object or to control mechanical motion. They work on the principle of mechanical contact, where when an object triggers a switch, the contact point inside changes state, generating an electrical signal.

Working principle: The working principle of the stroke switch is based on the mechanical motion of the object to trigger the switch, through the closing and breaking of the contact point to control the state of the circuit, so as to achieve the detection of the position of the object or control the stroke switch is usually composed of a mechanical arm, lever or button. This mechanical component can be acted upon and moved by external forces.

Inside the travel switch, there are one or more pairs of metal contact points. One contact point is connected to the power supply, the other is connected to the load (e.g. motor, relay, etc.), and the travel switch is placed on the path of the object that needs to be monitored or controlled, or at a specific location. When the measured object reaches or exceeds a specific position, it triggers the mechanical part of the travel switch.

When the mechanical part of the travel switch is triggered, the mechanical part moves, causing the metal contact point to close. Such a closing action causes the circuit to connect, triggering an operation or feedback signal for the load. Once the trigger condition is no longer present, the mechanical parts of the travel switch return to their initial position, causing the metal contacts to separate again, thus breaking the circuit connection.

Based on the principle of mechanical contact, the travel switch has a simple and reliable operating principle and is suitable for a variety of environments and applications. The travel switch can accurately detect the position or movement of the object and has a high degree of controllability at the position of the trigger point. Due to its strong mechanical structure, the travel switch usually has a long service life and can withstand certain physical shocks and pressures.
